As I reflect on the profound journey my son and I have experienced together since his ADHD diagnosis, I am continuously amazed at how music has become such a powerful tool for us. It’s a tool that has not only helped us focus and express ourselves but also allowed us to tap into a deeper, more peaceful version of ourselves. And for that, I’m deeply grateful. But it’s not just the power of music that I’m grateful for. It’s the way it’s allowed me to refocus — not only my son but the people around me as well.

As a teacher, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing how deeply music can transform lives. One of the most fulfilling aspects of what I do is being able to help my students refocus, especially those who may struggle with attention like my son and I do. Music creates an environment of safety, structure, and expression — and it’s in that environment that people thrive. In my lessons, I work to create a space where everyone feels welcome, no matter their background or learning style. I see it every day: when I guide a student through a melody or rhythm, there’s a shift. It’s like a flicker of light where there once was chaos. I watch their faces as they find that rhythm — it’s like they’ve found a place to be themselves, without judgment or pressure.

As someone who understands firsthand what it’s like to live with ADHD, I know the importance of a compassionate, understanding approach. That’s why my lessons are designed with a special focus on how different minds process music. I’m committed to creating a space where neurodiverse learners feel not only welcome but celebrated. ADHD, Autism, dyslexia — these are not barriers to being part of something beautiful; they are simply different ways of thinking and being. In my classroom, every mind is seen as a gift. Everyone is given the tools to succeed, to express themselves, and to experience joy.

When you refocus through music, you’re not just gaining skills — you’re finding your voice, your rhythm. For me, it’s incredibly rewarding to see my students go from uncertainty to confidence. I know the feeling of being distracted, scattered, or overwhelmed, but through music, that’s where I’ve found my balance. And now, I get to share that with others. Watching a student with ADHD sing with newfound confidence or a neurodiverse learner light up with a deep connection to a piece of music is truly heartwarming. I believe in every one of them, and I’m dedicated to helping them unlock the magic of music.

What’s incredible about music is that it transcends words, diagnoses, and labels. It’s an open door for anyone, no matter where they come from or what challenges they face. As someone who has lived with ADHD, I understand the struggles that come with staying focused, regulating emotions, and finding connection. But in my lessons, music gives my students — and me — a way to do all those things, in a way that feels natural, engaging, and empowering.

I want to extend a heartfelt invitation to anyone who might be struggling with ADHD or other neurodiverse conditions: You belong in this space. You are not only welcome, but you are celebrated for the unique perspective you bring to music and to life. Through song, we learn how to quiet the noise, tune into our inner rhythm, and find the space to simply be.

If you’ve ever felt that your mind moves too fast or your emotions too quickly to keep up with the world, I want you to know that you are not alone. Music is here for you, just as it has been for me and my family. Let it be your anchor, your outlet, and your connection to a world where focus, self-expression, and joy are all within your reach.

We are all on this journey together, navigating life with ADHD and other neurodiverse experiences. But through music, we are never alone. We have a shared language, a song in our hearts, and a rhythm to carry us forward. If you haven’t already, I encourage you to explore the powerful world of music in your own life. Whether it’s through singing, playing an instrument, or simply letting the music wash over you, I promise you it will help you find the focus and peace you seek.

Together, through music, we can find the space to grow, heal, and shine.

Vicky and Henry xx
